I have been trying to teach Joel about the importance of prayer and that Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers. But he, as sad as it sounds, doesn't believe that his prayers are heard. Mainly because he has nightmares almost every night. So I told him that if he is scared he can always say a prayer to help calm him down, and we normally pray before bed that he will have good dreams. Well the nightmares haven't stopped despite Joels pleas and prayers so he has decided that prayers are not answered. It's hard enough to convince an adult why some prayers are answered in different ways then what we think they should, let a lone trying to convince a 7 year old. Well I have been trying to find a way to help him understand and yesterday a situation presented itself.
Joel and Sydney had been looking for a toy and couldn't find it, and me being so wise told them to look harder. Well after coming to me 5 or more times Joel finally says:
"Mom maybe we should say a prayer."
My heart leaped for joy and I dropped everything I was doing to help them. Sydney said the sweetest little prayer then the kids asked me to pray as well. During the prayer Sydney was making sure that I gave a full description of the toy with all of the colors. We said the prayer and continued the search. After a while I told the kids that maybe if we sit still and listen we could hear the still small voice lead us to where it was. So we were all quiet until Sydney in her high squeaky voice said:
"The Holy Ghost will help us, and Jesus will too."
Shortly after that Justin found the missing toy and a prayer of thanks was said. But what really amazed me was how confident Joel, Sydney and Bailee were that the Holy Ghost would lead us to the toy. It was not only a great opportunity for me to teach the kids about prayer and relying on our Heavenly Father, but a lesson for me as well. I was able to see the faith of my children in action and the love of our Heavenly Father for my kids. It proved to me nothing is to great or small for him to pour out his tender mercies.
I am sure that Joel will still have his doubts from time to time but I hope he will remember and go back to this experience to help him when he needs it, I know I will.

That is cool! We love saying prayers for things that we have lost. It works every time! Some things take a little longer than others, but we do find what was lost. Like one time I had lost the second set of keys to our van. It was driving me crazy because I knew they had to be somewhere. Well, it wasn't until we started getting ready to move from our last house and were going through things that I found them in this little tiny box. It sat by the key box for a while and had fallen in. I had moved the box to the back room never to be reopened until we moved. So three months later or so we found them. Ha!
I really like your family photos. I may have commented before, but they look really nice!
Awesome story! Make sure to keep that and let your children and great-grand children read it. It's a testimony builder!
